Dear Friends,
Life certainly has its ups and downs. It is strange to think that when one person is having their best day, another person is experiencing their worst day. There are occasions throughout history that mass tragedy has impacted a large group of people (such as September 11, 2001), and you see a united front immediately take place. That is a rare occasion. The typical reality is that when we are going through a difficult time the world around us proceeds as though nothing catastrophic has happened.
In recent days my family has experienced some horrible tragedies. We have suffered loss and unimaginable circumstances. We have watched the world go on around us. That could hurt. And yet, I have been able to reach out to a small circle of family and friends that have lifted me up and are helping me as I try to navigate through a turmoil of emotions. They have kept me going. I am blessed to have such a circle, and I know that I can turn to them at any time.
This made me think about those who may not have a “circle”. As I considered this, I was left hoping that everyone has at least one person, a trusted friend, that they can count on. Of course…this made me think about what we do at The Mentoring Network!
Friendship…what a powerful gift! It fills my heart and soul with joy to know that I am part of an organization that creates an opportunity to make connections and introduce friends. It is a precious thing to have someone that will listen, sit in silence, or just be there to encourage you. It is equally amazing to have someone to celebrate the beautiful moments with, a friend that will cheer you on, and share in your joy and laughter.
We never know when a child may experience one of their worst days. Yet, because of you, our mentors and friends of The Mentoring Network, they will have a friend to support them, or just be there. Imagine the delight for that same child in knowing that on their best day they will not celebrate alone! Because of you…they have at least one friend to help them navigate through this crazy thing called life.
