Be The Reason

Dear Friends,

Imagine hearing these words from someone you admire….

“I love your smile, your sense of humor, I love your strength and that you are also sensitive.  I love our conversations.  You have been a light for me, I am really grateful you are here.”

“You are such an inspiration to me, that’s you, that’s what I think of when I hear your name”

“You inspire me to keep going because of your energy and joy.  You light up our classroom with your kindness, and you are going to make the world a better place.”

“You make my day, every day”

“Students like you are few and far between.  Keep being you and brightening people’s days.  Always remember I am in your corner rooting for you to do good things”

“Watching you grow in the past 3 years and to see where you are going to go in the future melts my heart”

These are just a few quotes from cards that Roseville Middle School staff members shared with their students.  Each staff member was asked to pick a student and thank them for being the reason they come to work every day, and to share why they inspire them.  The result- tears, hugs, thanks, gestures of appreciation…hearts that were touched and lives that were changed.

I knew this was something I had to share with each of you. In a world often fueled by negativity, I feel so blessed to be part of a group of people that know the power of sharing and kindness.  As we all know, mentoring is not something that any of us do for just one hour a week.  We work to positively influence the communities we live in daily, and the results we create directly impact the lives of the kids we mentor.  What a beautiful circle!

Telling someone that they are your reason is such a simple thing to do, and yet, we do not do it nearly often enough.  This month I would love it if each of you would do the following two things.  If you have not watched the Roseville Middle School “Be the Reason” video look it up, watch it, and tell at least one other person about it!  Secondly, tell someone why they inspire you…bonus points if you want to tell a few people!  It is such a simple, yet powerful gift to give.  It will make someone’s day, and will likely be a moment they will always remember.

If you are up to sharing, I would love to hear about the experience you create!

Have a beautiful April, my friends.
